Participants will learn how to review immigration documents to support foreign employee license applications to the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) and Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC), including practical guidance on documentation, timelines, and eligibility. The course will also explore common visa scenarios that do not qualify for deemed export licenses, such as F-1 students without OPT or individuals employed by third-party sponsors.

In addition to export compliance, the course will focus on best practices for HR screening and recruiting processes, with a strong emphasis on:
- How to lawfully assess "U.S. person" status for roles subject to export controls;
- Drafting compliant job postings;
- Avoiding discriminatory hiring practices under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) and related federal regulations.
This webinar will include PowerPoint slides and live video and commentary from Sophie Alcorn. Each registrant, even if unable to attend live, will have access to the presentation, certificate of completion, speaker contact information for follow-up questions, and access to the webinar recording within 1-2 business days after the webinar airs. Webinar participants are invited to submit questions during the webinar and the final 30 minutes will be allotted to answering attendee questions.
