Aiysha Hussain

Aiysha Hussain is a Partner at Mayer Brown, where she counsels clients on complex national security and international trade matters, with particular emphasis on export controls, economic sanctions, and the information and communications technology and services (ICTS) program. Drawing on more than 15 years of experience across both government and private practice, Aiysha provides strategic compliance guidance, represents companies in enforcement proceedings, and conducts internal investigations into potential violations of economic sanctions and export control laws.

Aiysha’s government service includes her role as Senior Policy Advisor to the Assistant Secretary of Export Administration of the Bureau of Industry and Security. In this capacity, she played a key role in shaping export control priorities, advising on high-stakes initiatives involving China and Russia, and spearheading the development of export controls on emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. Previously, as Senior Counsel in the Office of the Chief Counsel for Industry and Security, she focused on enforcement and investigations.

Earlier in her career, Aiysha clerked for the U.S. District Court for the U.S. Virgin Islands and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. She also practiced at a leading Washington, DC law firm, where she handled matters involving export controls, sanctions, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), and white-collar investigations.

Aiysha is a proud double Hoya, holding both her undergraduate degree from Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service and her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center. She was also awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to Egypt, further enriching her global perspective.
